Projet d'extension d'une école d'architecture sur l'île de Toyosu à Tokyo. La question principale de se exercice se situait dans la situation particulière de cette zone de la métropole japonaise : une construction massive d'une architecture de haute densité dans un contexte vierge, seuls quelques espaces communautaires restent disponibles, dont l'espace qu'occupera l'extension.
Le projet se concentre ici sur la collaboration entre espace publics et espaces pour les étudiants. La forme globale du bâtiment est la résultante des espaces de vie extérieurs.
Extension project of an architecture school on Toyosu Island, Tokyo. The main problematic of this exercise was the way to deal with the context of this specific area of the Japanese metropolis : on an empty island, construction of numerous high-density buildings with only a few community space available nowadays. And the extension of the school who destroy one of the last ones left. The project focus here on the collaboration between the public spaces and the student spaces. The global shape of the building is the result of the design of the outside spaces.
La partie supérieure des bâtiments sont des jardins en pente, permettant d'ouvrir un nouvel horizon orienté vers le ciel et non plus vers les buildings environnants. L'édifice comporte de plus de nombreuses zones accessibles à tous que ce soit intérieur et extérieur, et ce à hauteur de 40% de son programme : toiture/parc, cafétéria, espaces artistiques, salle de conférence/cinéma ou encore bibliothèque.
Un autre point important était la continuité entre murs et sol, induite par la forme du bâtiment. Pour développer cet aspect, une module a été étudié. Ce module est également l'occasion d'une nouvelle relation entre intérieur et extérieur : étant structurel, ce module a une épaisseur conséquente, mais qui lui permet d'être aussi utilisé dans le même temps comme table, siège, rangement ou brise-soleil... En extérieur, le module devient également mobilier urbain.
The upper part of the buildings are slope gardens, opening the horizon on the sky instead of seeing the buildings around. The edifice shares numerous outside and inside spaces with both students and citizens, up to 40% of its total surface : roof/park, cafeteria, artistic spaces, conference center/cinema or library.
Another stressed point was the continuity between walls and ground, resulting of the shape of the building. To develop this feature, a module has been studied in the project. It was also the opportunity of a new relationship between inside and outside : being part of the structure, the module has a certain thickness which can be used both as a table, seat, storage unit or as a sunscreen. In the exterior spaces, the module is also used as a street furniture.
