Concours ayant pour thème la création d'un nouveau type d'espace de lecture dans la ville japonaise. Notre étude s'est porté sur l'étude d'une nouvelle relation entre le livre, le citoyen et notre société.
Aujourd'hui, la relation entre le Temps et l'Homme a évolué au travers du développement des nouvelles technologies : ces appareils nous permettent de communiquer plus vite, de partager plus vite, d'accéder aux services plus vite. Nous sommes dans une société qui n'a plus besoin d'attendre, qui ne veut plus attendre.
Cependant, dans ce contexte, les espaces dédiés à la lecture que sont les bibliothèques n'ont pas évolué : trop éloignées des itinéraires quotidiens elles ne correspondent pas aux besoins de l'homme moderne occupé.

Nowadays, the relationship between Time and Man is evolving, thanks to the development of technologies : those devices allowed us to exchange faster, to share faster, to travel faster, to understand faster. We are in a society that don't have to wait anymore, that cannot wait anymore. We are in a Now Society.
In that context, the reading spaces -or library- hasn't changed, remaining a central point in the city, but loosing little by little what makes the new world : speed. Distant of 40minutes of the reading spaces, how can the busy modern man find a nice place to read ?
Concepts of the project
Dans ce projet, nous avons décidé de rapprocher les lieux de lecture du citoyen en les multipliant et ainsi créer un réseau dense, au lieu d'avoir une bibliothèque principale mais éloignée.
Comment faire ? Pour trouver les emplacements nécessaires, nous utilisons les espaces vierges disponibles aussi bien dans le temps que dans l'espace :
- sites disponibles dans les jardins publics, sur les quais, dans les parkings, au dessus de certains bâtiments ou dans les interstices entre deux.
- temps disponibles entre la destruction d'un bâtiment et la construction d'un nouveau ou dans un espace public.
Pour être capable de s'adapter à chaque site and pour répondre à une logique de montage/démontage facile, nous avons besoin d'un module flexible. Ici, un module économique basé sur les mesures types japonaises (tatami dans une maison de thé).
S'ajoute à cette idée une expression des caractéristiques de chaque endroit où les modules seraient placés. Le nombre de module ou la hauteur de l'empilement serait fonction du contexte proche telle la densité de la population, le skyline ou la lumière. La disposition des ouvertures dépendrait également des vues environnantes par exemple. Un élément ponctuel pourrait également rappeler l'identité du lieu : certains modules du quartier de Nippori auraient un dernier étage où des tentures remplacent le bois. Dans un parc, une double hauteur permet de lire à l'ombre du feuillage, ou encore une rangée de néon pour l'entrée des book stop de Akihabara.
We decided in that project to fit the reading spaces to the new Society by multiplying them, bringing them closer to the citizen. Instead of having a remote central library by district, we wanted to create a considerate amount of close to the citizen reading spaces.
How to do so ? To find the necessary free ground, we want to use the blank room available in the space and in the time :
- the usable sites in the gardens, near the rivers, the parkings, the top of the buildings or the remain between them.
- the time between the destruction of a building and the construction of a new one, a temporary space to meet specific demands like festivals, exhibitions, or after disasters.
To be able to match every site and to fit into a easy-to-build fast-to-remove logic, we need a flexible solution. We designed a cheap-to-produce module of a reading space, being stacked according to the needs of an area.
To enhance this basic idea, the use of the options of the site to create variations of the building seems necessary. The height of a building would be chosen accordingly to the close context, such as the density of the population, the skyline and the light. The disposition of the wooden panel walls would be also depending on the light or view. Finally, we wanted to express the identity of the area through one subtle feature : in the top module of one of the Nippori's reading space, one could find fabric replacing the walls. In a public garden, a double high space grant a nice reading time shaded by the trees' leaves. Or in Akihabara, a wall is replace by a row of neon.
